Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Dave Righetti

Acquired: November 10, 1978: Traded to the Yankees by the Texas Rangers with Greg Jemison (minors), Juan Beniquez, Mike Griffin and Paul Mirabella in return for for Mike Heath, Sparky Lyle, Larry McCall, Dave Rajsich, Domingo Ramos and cash.

  • Dave would have been named to the 1983 A.L. all-star team as a replacement for Ron Guidry. However, the same injury to Guidry forced a shift in the rotation that had Righetti starting two days before the all-star game.  For that reason, he was not named to the team since those in charge of selecting the replacements felt he would not be able to actually pitch in the game.  They were probably correct.  That same pre-all-star game start came on July 4th when Dave Righetti threw 132 pitches while no-hitting the Boston Red Sox.
