Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Lindy McDaniel

Acquired: July 12, 1968: Lindy was traded to the New York Yankees from the San Francisco Giants for Bill Monbouquette.

Trivia: On September 28, 1972 at Tiger Stadium, Lindy McDaniel hit a home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  The home run was hit with one out off Tiger lefty Mickey Lolich and was the last round-tripper hit by a Yankee pitcher before the introduction of the Designated Hitter in 1973.  It was McDaniel's third and final home run of his career.

Maybe, McDaniel was tired after his trip around the bases as he allowed the Tigers to score an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.  Eventually, Roy White hit a home run off Mickey Lolich (who went the distance) in the top of the twelfth to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  A Tiger rally in the bottom of the inning fell short and Sparky Lyle held on for his ninth win of the season.
