Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Ross Moschitto

Highlights

June 18, 1965: Ross hits the sole home run of his career and knocks in two runs in a 10-2 rout of the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium.  As usual, Ross didn't start, but rather replaced Mickey Mantle in the top of the 7th inning with the game well in hand.  The Yankees had taken a 6-1 lead after the first, thanks to a Mantle grand slam and a Phil Linz 2-run homer.  By the 7th, the Yankees led 7-2 and Ross entered the game in place of Mickey.  In the bottom of the 7th, Roger Maris smacked a solo HR to make it 8-2.  Elston Howard then singled and Ross followed with a 2-run homer off Minnesota's Jim Perry to finish off the Yankee scoring on the day.

Notes

  • Ross missed the 1966 season due to Military obligations, but was assigned #53.
  • Visitor "Andy from West Orange" notes that Ross often replaced Mickey Mantle in the field in the later innings of games.

Memories

Paul from Luck, WI wrote: "I remember the HR [Ross' sole major league home run]. Was watching or listening to the game as Twins fan, the team coming into power in 1965."
