Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Dale Murray

Traded: December 9, 1982: In what is considered to be one of the worst Yankee deals of all-time, Dale was traded by the Toronto Blue Jays with Tom Dodd to the New York Yankees for Dave Collins, Fred McGriff, Mike Morgan, and cash.  The Yankees were glad to rid themselves of Dave Collins who was a complete bust, but in just a few years they would miss the lefty power bat and 493 career home runs of Fred McGriff.

Yankee Highlights: April 8, 1984: Dale comes on in relief in the top of the 12th inning in Texas in a 3-3 ballgame. Despite allowing a one-out single to George Wright, he strikes out Larry Parrish and (future Yankee) Gary Ward to end the inning. In the top of the 12th, the Yankees took the lead on an Omar Moreno single, stolen base and Don Mattingly RBI double. Facing a potential win, Murray allowed a leadoff single to Bill Stein. Stein was eventually forced at second on a grounder by Ned Yost for the first out. Yost moved to second on a Wayne Tolleson 4-3 groundout. With two out and the tying run on second, Murray proceeded to pick off Yost to secure the 4-3 victory.
