Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Bob Kuzava

Acquired: June 15th, 1951: Bob was acquired from the Washington Senators in return for Bob Porterfield, Tom Ferrick and Fred Sanford.

August 8, 1953:  In only his fourth start of the season, Bob starts the second game of a double header against the second place White Sox and takes a no-hitter to the ninth before Bob Boyd breaks it up with a one-out double.  He retires the next two batters to secure a 3-0 victory.  Earlier in the day, Whitey Ford tossed a 5-hit, 1-0 shutout in the first game when the Yankees won on a Johnny Mize pinch-hit single in the ninth.

Peter from South Carolina wrote: "My first time to Yankee Stadium was in summer 1954 where the Yankees won a double header vs. the Chicago White Sox: 1-0 & 2-0. Whitey Ford pitched the first shutout and Bob Kuzava, in his ONLY START, pitched a 1 hit shut out - giving up a line drive double to Bob Boyd in the 9th with 1 out! GREAT REMEMBRANCE!" Editor's Note: Thanks to Pete for pointing out this near no-hitter!  For the record, I have to make a few corrections.  The game mentioned was played on August 8, 1953 and the final score was 3-0.  It was also Kuzava's fourth start of the season.  Interestingly, his next appearance was a start against the Philadelphia A's where he threw a second consecutive complete game shutout.
