Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Neil Allen

Acquired: July 16, 1985: Neil was purchased by the New York Yankees from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Traded: February 13, 1986: Neil was traded to the Chicago White Sox with Glen Braxton (career minor leaguer), Scott Bradley and cash in return for Chris Alvarez (career minor leaguer), Eric Schmidt (career minor leaguer), Ron Hassey and Matt Winters.

Acquired: September 4, 1987: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees.

May 31, 1988:  Yankee starter Al Leiter's first pitch of the game against Carney Lansford of the Oakland A's (in Oakland) is lined right back to mound and off Leiter's left forearm, forcing him from the game after just one pitch.  Neil Allen is called in from the bullpen to relieve and goes the rest of the way, completing a nine inning shoutout en-route to a 5-0 Yankee win.  In fact, Allen would retire the first 19 batters he faced until a Jose Canseco single with one out in the 7th inning.  Allen would only allow two more baserunners, a Ron Hassey single with two out in the 8th and a two-out Canseco single in the 9th.  On the day, Allen walked none, struck out five and improved to a 2-0 record on the season.
