Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Jose Canseco

Memories

Galo from New York City wrote to say: "I remember his first HR as Yankee. It was onTV but, man it was a line drive to the upper deck! I wish I could see it again! Go Yankees 4EVR"

For the record, that first Yankee home run came in his second game in Pinstripes. It was August 10th, 2000 against the Oakland A's. Torre penciled him into the clean-up spot in the lineup against Mark Mulder. Canseco walked in the first to load the bases, setting up a fielder's choice RBI grounder by Dave Justice to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead.

He came to the plate in the second inning again as the Yankees batted around. This time he batted with runners on first and third, no out and a 3-0 lead and lifted a sac fly to center to plate Luis Sojo and extend the lead to 4-0.

Jose came to the plate next in the fourth with the Yankees now leading 7-2 (Mark Mulder still on the mound) and hit his first Yankee home run, a solo shot, to left field. Dave Justice followed with a double and Glenallen Hill followed that with a two-run HR.

Canseco came to the plate yet again in the 5th and lifted another run scoring sac fly to center, scoring Derek Jeter and giving the Yankees an 11-2 lead.

He ended his successful Yankee debut with a double in the 7th in a 12-6 Yankee win.
