Facts, Trivia, Memories and More about Babe Dahlgren

Trivia

On May 2, 1939 Lou Gehrig's 2,130 consecutive game streak ended and Babe Dahlgren took his place in the lineup. Dahlgren hits a home run and a double and the Yankees cruised to a 22-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Statistics

  • Dahlgren knocked in 89 runs in 1939, but only hit .235. While the 89 RBI is a respectable amount, it was only good enough for fifth best on a team where 7 players drove in 80 or more runs.
  • Dahlgren tied for the league lead in games played in 1940 with 155. He also tied for second in the league in hit by pitches with 5. On the negative side, he grounded into 20 double plays, good for second best (or worst) in the league.
